There are many interesting galleries on wildlife websites, where you can find and view a vivid and colorful Bald Eagle Pic and thus get a broader outlook upon the world in general and the bird in particular. American Bald Eagles are beautiful birds of prey that have suffered a crippling blow in the 20th century, when they were on the brink of total extermination. For a few decades, they were considered to be endangered, and it was not until 1995 that they were upgraded to the status of threatened.

The Bald Eagle (haliaeetus leucocephalus) is the largest and bird in America. The bird is found only in North America. Today, it is the national emblem of the country, and hence it is depicted on badges, coins, nickels and other items. Bald Eagles are excellent hunters. Due to their phenomenal eyesight, they can spot fish and other animals from high above the earth. This makes them superb hunters. Bald Eagles take fish by swooping down and snatching it from water. If the fish is too large and heavy, they can swim toward the shore or bank, using their large wings as oars. Bald Eagle Pics with birds spreading their wings in them create an impression of pride, valor and determination.

Bald Eagles are found all the way across the United States, from north Mexico through Canada and Alaska. British Columbia is their most significant stronghold so far, and most of the Bald Eagle population is concentrated in Alaska. Because they feed primarily on fish, Eagles nest and live in the proximity of large bodies of water, where food is easily available. Besides fish, they also feed on ground mammals, small birds and waterfowl. There are Bald Eagle Pics available on websites where Eagles are shot in the process of picking on prey.

American Bald Eagles display reverse sexual dimorphism, and females are larger than males by 25%. These birds are brown, with white on the head and tail. There are also white feathers on the breast and under the wings. Adult species measure around 35 inches in length, and their wingspan may exceed 7 feet. It is only by 3-4 years of age that Bald Eagles take on the described color pattern. Young Eagles are totally brown, and they bear a close resemblance to Golden Eagles, except for the shape of the head and a slightly different body formation. In order to better understand the difference, it is recommended to view and study a Bald Eagle Pic.

Bald Eagles bear a significant cultural meaning to American people. Native Americans consider them to be sacred birds that play the role of messengers between humans and supernatural beings. However, humans have given them a real hard time in the 20th century, driving them near extinction. By the end of the 20th century, their population achieved a relative stability. Just take a look at a good Bald Eagle Pic to understand what we have all but lost and are still likely to lose unless we change our attitude toward wildlife!
